Sci-Fi RPGs

A Little History

Welcome to Omega Rising.

If you've been here before, thanks for coming back after so long. I've spent so much time in the Void, it's nice to see friendly face. If you haven't been here before, let me give you a little history on the site. Omega Rising started out as my personal expansion of the 1980's Science Fiction RPG, Star Frontiers. The name is a play of the original rule book that was named 'Alpha Dawn'.

Back in the late 90's I started developing Omega Rising as a web resource. At first it was posted on Geocities and then in 2003 I purchased the domain name. I went through various Content Management Systems (CMS) and finally settled on one I liked, Postnuke. While administering the site, I changed the focus from Star Frontiers to SciFi RPGs in general, this allowed me to include other space games I enjoyed and cross reference them to Star Frontiers.

Well in 2007 disaster struck. My sites had fallen to the back burner due to real life obligations and my sites fell under attack to hackers. I did not have the time or energy to fix the issue and after several hacks, I took the site off the net. While I have dabbled with my sites now and then, I found that I did not have the resources to make a responsive, so I have never really pushed at recreating them.

Enter NGINX (engine X) if this is a scifi name for a web service, I'm not aware of which one is. NGINX is a beautiful light weight web service that allows starships to hit void-speeds with minimal jump drives. I installed it just to see what it was like and placed one of my sites on it. This has rekindled my desire to put my site back on the net. I looked for a different CMS and decided on Drupal, since they focus on security.

So there you have it. I still have a lot of work and little time so updates may be slow to come. If there is anyone out there that wishes to assist, just let me know.
